GREAT NEWS

In THE TIMES, June 6, Jane MacQuitty wrote :

" Bordeaux teaches the new world a blend or two with the gorgeous, tangy, sauvignon-dominant 2008 Château des Chapelains Prélude sec (Oddbins, £7.99) with the generous dollops of semillon, sauvignon gris and muscadelle.

So blends it is."

NEW FERMENTATION SYSTEM
Ajouté le 16/04/2009 - Auteur : pcharlot

Two new vats have been bought for the 2008 harvest. We use the vinification system called "PIGEAGE" .

That is to improve our reds : it gives more fruit and less tannins. Our best Merlot and Cabernet franc have been fermented in those vats... They are our top reds ! 2008 is already a great vintage.

FAMILY HISTORY...
Ajouté le 01/12/2005 - Auteur : webmestre

Since the 17th century the same family has worked the vineyards at Château des Chapelains. In 1991 Pierre CHARLOT built a new cellar and started making his own wines. Up to that date the grapes were harvested and delivered to the cooperative. The 43 hectares vineyard overlooks the Dordogne valley on the southern slopes of Sainte Foy La Grande.

29.2 hectares of red grape vines : 14.3 ha merlot, 9.9 ha  cabernet sauvignon and 5 ha cabernet franc.

13.4 hectares of white grape vines : 6.4 ha sauvignon blanc, 2.9 ha sémillon, 1.8 ha muscadelle and 2.3 ha sauvignon gris.
